Here is a list of frequently asked questions and troubleshooting tips for the RP5-GM11 and the RP5-GM31.
Sony steering wheel controls: Sony stereos frequently require the dial to be on Pioneer, not Sony. Also, if the radio in question has a Steering Control setting, it must be on Preset, not Custom. (dys 1/19)
Two yellow and two black wires: On this harness/interface there are two yellow and two black wires. On our web pictures it's not really shown but there is a free yellow and a free black on the gray GM style plug and there are free yellow and black on the black RP5 module plug. These need to BOTH go to the new radio's yellow and black respectively. (es 1/19)
Distortion? Sound is not clear? This happens when there is a factory amp but the interface is using the Non-amplified Factory Audio jack. So full strength sound overpowers the amp causing distortion. Solution is use the Amplified Factory Audio jack instead.
Low Audio? Audio Too Loud? Check Amplified/non-amplified plugs: Like other PAC units, this module's speaker output plug will fit both the amplified and non-amplified ports on the blue module, so be sure to qualify the vehicle properly first, then verify the plug is in the proper socket.
Getting a humming noise?: Check the position of connector on the output side of the interface, make sure it is in the correct position based on the stock system, amplified or non-amplified.
Hearing noise, interference or feedback at low volume? This could be background hiss from a factory amp caused by using the Non-amplified Factory Audio jack on the interface. The full strength audio level inputting into the amp is the cause. Solution is use the Amplified Factory Audio jack instead.
Important information about Double-Din radios, note in the box: There is a note which is included with this interface which says that you must perform a modification to the yellow and black wires by adding jumpers. Not every customer needs to do this! Assure customers that they should only have to do this if they encounter the unit turning off at high volumes. This should technically only happen on factory non-amplified models. The factory amplified models should not put as much of a load on the radio therefore not increasing the current draw and causing issues with the interface.
SWC not working with radios that use 3.5mm jack: Make sure the blue/yellow wire is not connected to anything, especially a blue/white on the radio. Having the blue/yellow connected to an amp remote wire or power antenna wire will cause the adapter to think there is a constant command coming from the steering wheel.
Hearing SiriusXM preview channel? The RP5-GM11 RCA jacks are plugged into preamp outputs on the radio. The RCAs must connect to an Aux input on the radio instead. This interface is capable of accessing the factory satellite tuner when present in the vehicle. When incorrectly connected to an output on the radio audio from the factory XM will back feed into the radio's preamp circuits and be heard all the time regardless of input selected.
LEDs There are two LEDs. One is on the edge of the box to the left of the programming button. It lights up when the box is providing Acc power. The SWC LED is on top of the box and lights whenever a steering wheel button is pushed.
Firmware Updates: Firmware Updates for this unit can be located here:
https://pac-audio.com/firmware
A Pac-Up module is required to update this interface. This means we will have to accommodate updating when necessary. In rare cases an installer might have the Pac-Up and be willing to do the update (we cannot reimburse for this though). Even more rare cases a customer can buy a Pac-Up elsewhere (Amazon for example) to perform the update themselves. A reminder you are required to provide the existing firmware version customer currently has when requesting a firmware update for this item.
3 Wire Protocol Radio SWC Retention Procedure (Boss Stereos & PAC Adaptor):
- The rotary switch or dip switches of the PAC unit should be set to #7 or pioneer before the interface is connected to vehicle.
- Ignition should be turned off and driver's door opened before connecting Radiopro or PAC interface to the vehicle
- Our blue/yellow wire of the PAC unit will connect to the radios Key1/A or SWC1 radio input wire.
- Key 2/b or SWC2 and the ground reference wires will not be used and should be isolated.
- Remember that the radio will need to be programmed internally after the Radoipro or SWI Pac interface is understanding the vehicle inputs
Advent / Jensen SWC Compatibility: Advent and Jensen SWC is covered under the "Other" setting for this adaptor. Also this adaptor will work with both Brands of radio.
!NAV Output Colors Have Changed!: The NAV outputs (Parking Brake, Reverse, VSS) now use new colors. Customer may receive old instructions with harness that has new colors. If you DO NOT see a RED/WHITE wire, then its the new version that has colors that match the .pdf manual we have in our system.
Sony Radio Not Working with SWC: If a connected Sony radio is not working with the SWC and you have the dial on this unit set to 8, try disconnecting the module from power and setting the dial to 7 (Pioneer/Other) and see if that will allow it to work.
Sony XAV-AX100 and steering wheel control. Set the SWC menu pf the Sony itself to "preset" (not custom!). Unplug the RP5-GM11 interface plastic box entirely. (Harnesses can remain plugged into the car and radio but pull every plug from interface box. This must be done because changing setting on the radio select dial doesn't engage until after removing and reconnect.) Change the radio select dial to #7 which is Pioneer. Reconnect and test.
No Audio Until OnStar is Activated or Chime is Sounding: Activating OnStar or causing the chime to sound will turn on the factory amp (in factory amplified systems). So if no audio is present until OnStar or chime is activated double check the amp remote turn on connection.
